I often get the question, "what's in the water?" Many customers think professional window cleaners have some secret solution in our buckets that makes our job easier. There are also alot of window cleaners out there that are happy to perpetuate the myth too. I have no problems with telling my customers exactly what I'm doing and what products I'm using to do it.
At So Cal Squeegee Pros, when it comes to regular window cleaning, we just use soap and water. Believe me I wish there was some magic solution to make my life easier but there just isn't. Of course there are specialty window cleaning products on the market but in the end they are just soap, much like dish soap. In fact, there are professional window cleaning companies that use ordinary dish soap.
Nonetheless, I prefer to use the specialty soaps for a couple of reasons. First of all, they are stronger and take a little less scrubbing. Second, and more importantly to me, they tend to produce less suds. The suds themselves aren't really an issue, it's just that they take a little more effort to wipe clean when detailing the edges of the window. Not a big deal for a home owner spending the afternoon cleaning his windows, but for a professional window cleaner, over the course of a day and dozens of windows, that time adds up.
When it's all said and done it's not the products used by professional window cleaners that make the difference. All of the products we use at So Cal Squeegee Pros are readily available, some at hardware or janitorial supply stores, others through specialty window cleaning suppliers online.
The difference is in the professional behind the squeegee. I've been cleaning windows professionally since 2001. I have tens of thousands of hours of experience cleanings hundreds of thousands of windows. As in any trade there is always something new to learn, but one thing that stays the same is that the tools and the products are only as good as the the pro using them.
